From the scenic beauty of Vang Vieng to the untouched charm of the 4,000 Islands in the south, Laos promises a journey of discovery and relaxation amidst some of Southeast Asia’s most captivating scenery.
Good to know before starting your Laos travel adventure
- Best Time to Visit: November to March (dry season) for cooler temperatures and minimal rainfall.
- Seasons: Wet season (May to October) and dry season (November to April).
- Religion: Predominantly Theravada Buddhism.
- Currency: Lao Kip (LAK), but Thai Baht and US Dollar widely accepted.
- Language: Lao (official), English and French spoken in tourist areas.
- Getting Around: Tuk-tuks and motorbikes for short distances; buses, minibuses, and domestic flights for longer journeys.
- Visa: Depending on your nationality, but most tourists will need a visa to visit Laos, we got our visa at the land border crossing between Laos and Cambodia (Nong Nok Khiene Border Crossing). It was very easy and smooth process to fill in and pay at the border. Make sure you check which land border crossings process visas as not all of them do. If you fly into an international airport, you may be able to apply for e-visa in advance.
