Picture yourself gliding along a winding river, surrounded by these caves on both sides. - From Phong Nha: Travellers from Phong Nha can also reach Tam Coc comfortably by bus, most likely a sleeper bus, ensuring a seamless transition from one breathtaking destination to another. Takes 6-7 hours and prices from $17.
- From Hue: Those coming from Hue and are skipping Phong Nha can embark on a scenic bus journey on a sleeper bus for 10-11 hours to arrive in the hidden beauty of Tam Coc. Price from $27.
- From Halong Bay or Cat Ba: If you are like us, travelling from north to south and visited Halong Bay or Cat Ba – the budget gateway to Halong Bay, it takes 4 hours and prices from $10.
When looking at bus options for longer journeys, we recommend booking the VIP bus as it gives you a more private sleeper seat with curtains.

Things to do in Ninh Binh and Tam Coc: 1 Day Itinerary
Morning: Hang Múa Viewpoint
Start the day by climbing up the path of 500 steps, leading you to an incredible cliff viewpoint. At the summit, be prepared to be captivated by panoramic vistas unfolding over a deep valley, meandering waterways, and lush green mountains. Noteworthy is the fact that this adventure offers not one, but two peaks to conquer. The path divides halfway, and both peaks promise views well worth the journey!

At the very top, you’ll see a dragon (not a real one, lol), like a friendly dragon statue. It’s super cool because it’s like a superhero watching over everything. When you reach the very top, you can feel the wind in your hair, and it’s like being on a mountain.
The best time to visit is either early morning when they open or at sunset to watch the sun go to sleep, like a giant nightlight turning off. The entrance ticket cost 100,000 dong (around $4) per person.


Afternoon: Explore Tam Coc by Bicycle
After breakfast following your climb of the viewpoint, embrace the local lifestyle by renting a bicycle for just 50,000 dong ($2) per day. Get a bicycle and explore the amazing landscapes at your own pace, discover hidden gems, and capture unforgettable moments along the way. It is a scenic bike ride.
Bicycle is the best way to get around Tam Coc, from the city centre, you can cycle around 15 minutes to get to Hung Mua viewpoint. If you are looking for a short and scenic ride, you can cycle around the lake, or for a longer adventure, go pass the lake away from the city and enter the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam. Along the river of where the boats are passing by and between the mountains that resembles Halong Bay on land.

Evening: Boat Tour at Sunset
As the day unfolds, take a mesmerising boat tour along the river, reminiscent of the iconic Halong Bay. The boat tour is open all day but the best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon. We recommend starting around 5 pm, the 1.5-2-hour journey offers a unique perspective of Tam Coc’s natural wonders. Boat hire costs 150,000 dong ($6), with an additional 120,000 dong ($5) per person.

For a central and convenient location, consider Victoria Hotel. Situated in the city center, this accommodation is next to the boat ride departure point and the bus stop, ensuring easy access to Tam Coc’s main attractions.
